Rudi Molleker can try his hand at the Canadian Peter Polansky in Doha, who a few years ago managed the feat of slipping into the main field as a lucky loser in all four majors. Maximilian Marterer has drawn the Argentine Marco Trungelliti. Mischa Zverev meets the Italian Gian Marco Moroni in round one. Peter Gojowczyk, on the other hand, starts against Turkey's Cem Ilkel, Julian Lenz against Renzo Olivo.

Daniel Masur has to play against Arthur Rinderknech from France, Mats Moraing against the Norwegian Mikael Torpegaard. Cedric-Marcel Stebe, seeded at number eleven, will initially play against Thomas Fabbiano. Oscar Otte, the number 20, has to master the Russian Roman Safiullin. Old hand Tobias Kamke will compete against the Swiss Henri Laaksonen. And Yannick Maden and Dustin Brown each have Japanese opponents in front of their noses: Maden Tatsuma Ito, Brown Hiroki Moriya.

For the women in Dubai, Anna-Lena Friedsam opens against Ana Konjuh, who slipped into the tableau with a wildcard. Katharina Gerlach immediately drew a difficult lot with the Swiss Stefanie Vögele, who was seeded in eighth place. Antonia Lottner plays against Elitsa Kostova from Bulgaria.
