Gojowczyk, currently number 120 in the world rankings, has missed the third round in his 15th participation in a Grand Slam since the Australian Open in 2012. On the other hand, Gojowczyk will not leave Melbourne completely unsatisfied, having survived the qualification and defeated Christopher Eubanks from the USA in round one.
Of the six German men started, only Alexander Zverev is in the tournament. Zverev prevailed in three sets in the Rod Laver Arena and now meets the Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco. Dominik Koepfer, Jan-Lennard Struff and Cedric-Marcel Stebe were eliminated in round one. Philipp Kohlschreiber was unable to compete against Stefanos Tsitsipas in his second round match due to an injury.
