Australian Open: Julia Görges convinced when moving into the third round
Julia Görges played the third round of the Australian Open with an impressive performance. With partly strong wind in the Melbourne Arena, the 38th in the world rankings defeated the number 13 seeded Petra Martic from Croatia with 4: 6, 6: 3, 7: 5. Görges is in the third round at the first Grand Slam of the year for the first time since 2015.

"It was a tough match, but I think I was aggressive at the important moments and it paid off," said Goerges after the competitive duel. In the next round, it will not be easier for the 31-year-old: the opponent is Alison Riske (USA), number 18 in Melbourne.
Görges had also decided against Martic to determine the game, she wanted to "take control", she said. Accordingly, she took a high risk, winning strikes alternated with many uncommon mistakes. Until the eighth game of the first set, Görges determined the match, but then missed the break and promptly lost the thread and the set.
But Görges was not discouraged by the sag. She remained aggressive, continued to serve well, but reduced her error rate and won the second set after a break to 4-2. After a patiently earned break to 2-1 in the third round, she conceded the rebreak to 4: 4, but kept her nerve and took Martic's serve again at 6: 5.
