Australian Open: Karatsev this time without, Shapovalov and Korda with a lot of drama

Last year's semi-finalist Aslan Karatsev advanced to the third round of the Australian Open 2022 without any major problems. On the other hand, Denis Shapovalov and Sebastian Korda had to fight hard.

Aslan Karatsev now plays against Adrian Mannarino

Aslan Karatsev needed a game like the one against Mackenzie McDonald at the Australian Open 2022. Although Karatsev gave up the first set against the American, he won in the end easily 3: 6, 6: 2, 6: 2 and 6: 3. In round one, the Russian had to go the full distance against Jaume Munar. And that was two days after winning the third title of his career in Sydney.

Surprisingly, it is not Hubert Hurkacz who is waiting in round three, but Adrian Mannarino. The latter prevailed in three sets against the Pole, who was seeded tenth.

Denis Shapovalov and Sebastian Korda, on the other hand, delivered great dramas. Shapovalov, who won the ATP Cup title with Canada, struggled to score 7: 6 (6), 6: 7 (3), 6: 7 (6), 7: 5 and 6: 2 against South Korean SoonWoo Kwon .

The game between Sebastian Korda and Corentin Moutet was even more exciting. In the end, the young American won 3: 6, 6: 4, 6: 7, 7: 5, 7: 6 (10: 6). Korda plays Pablo Carreno Busta in round three, who also had to go through five sets against Tallon Griekspoor.
