What an early Friday night Australian time at the new KIA Arena in Melbourne Park! Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis were announced - and the two local heroes did not disappoint. On the contrary: Kyrgios and Kokkinakis defeated the best doubles in the world Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic 7: 6 (8) and 6: 3.
In singles, the two buddies are no longer involved: Kyrgios failed in round two to Daniil Medvedev, Kokkinakis lost to Yannick Hanfmann at the start.
In the round of 16 of the doubles competition, Kokkinakis/Kyrgios will now meet either Jan-Lennard Struff and Dominik Koepfer or Ariel Behar and Gonzalo Escobar.
