Australian Open: Maggot wins German duel, Otte and Friedsam eliminated

Not much to fetch for the German starters at the beginning of the third qualifying day of the Australian Open: only Yannick Maden was able to win in a duel with Maximilian Marterer .

Maden prevailed in the first qualifying round with 6: 7 (2), 7: 6 (2) and 7: 6 (8) and fended off a match ball against ex-French Open round of 16 finalist Marterer. The German seated at position 18 now meets Lorenzo Giustino.

Oscar Otte, however, was eliminated. The World Ranking 162. lost to Frenchman Mathias Bourgue 7: 5, 1: 6 and 1: 6.

For the women, Anna-Lena Friedsam suffered an unexpected defeat. The German, who was in position 25 in qualification, lost to Yuki Naito 3: 6 and 5: 7.
