Bad news from Milos Raonic : The former world number three and Wimbledon finalist of 2016 had to cancel his start at the Australian Open 2022 on Friday. As the organizers announced, the 30-year-old was suffering from an Achilles tendon injury.

Last season, Raonic lost in Melbourne in the round of 16 against eventual winner Novak Djokovic in four sets. The Canadian's last match to date was at the ATP 250 tournament in Atalanta in July.

Raonic joined the list of injuries-related cancellations: Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Bianca Andreescu, among others, will not start at the first Grand Slam event of the year.

There are still big question marks behind the participation of Novak Djokovic ( unexplained vaccination status ), Rafael Nadal (Corona) and Dominic Thiem (cold).
