On the morning of his second round match against the sixth-placed ATP champion Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece), the 36-year-old veteran canceled his further participation in Melbourne. The reason for this is, according to the tournament organizers, a muscle strain.
Kohlschreiber won the Challenger from Canberra to Bendigo at the beginning of the year, in the first round the veteran had no problems with Marcus Giron. Tsitsipas, who was in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne last year, is waiting for the winner of the encounter between Milos Raonic and Cristian Garin.
From a German perspective, only Alexander Zverev and Peter Gojowczyk are represented in the tableau of the first major of 2020. Both play their second round on Thursday.
