Rafael Nadal was never in danger

Federico Delbonis did everything he could, but the Argentine never had a real chance against Rafael Nadal. Nevertheless, the Spanish industry leader took almost two and a half hours to finally prevail with 6: 3, 7: 6 (4) and 6: 1. Nadal meets his compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta on Saturday in the third round, who had to go through four sets against Peter Gojowczyk.

So while the top seed was never in danger, two dangerous underdogs made it exciting: Both Stan Wawrinka against Andreas Seppi and Karen Khachanov against Mikael Ymer were already behind in the fifth set with a break, both of whom still managed to turn the tables. The Russian made it particularly exciting: Khachanov had to create a rebreak in the fifth set at 5: 6 in the fifth set, then his opponent Ymer also squandered an 8: 6 lead in the match tie break.

Wawrinka now against Isner

The task in the next round will not be much easier for Khachanov: Nick Kyrgios is waiting, who also needed four sets against Gilles Simon. Stan Wawrinka, 2015 winner in Melbourne, finally won 4: 6, 7: 5, 6: 3, 3: 6 and 6: 4 against Seppi and now plays against a well-rested John Isner who has no problems with the Chilean qualifier Alejandro Tabilo would have.
