Naomi Osaka last lost a tennis match a little over a year ago: in the Fed Cup in Spain on ashes. Since then, the 23-year-old has only tried hard court. And won every game she played. No wonder Osaka is the favorite against Jennifer Brady in the final of the first major of the year on Saturday. Should Osaka live up to her role, she could reach a few milestones.
- She could become the first woman from Asia and the twelfth overall to win the Australian Open multiple times.
- Osaka would become the first woman since Monica Seles to win her first four Grand Slam finals.
- She would become the fourth active woman to win at least four major singles titles. The other three are Serena Williams (23), Venus Williams (7) and Kim Clijsters (4).
- She could become the seventh Open Era player to win the title after parrying a match point. Osaka succeeded in this against Garbine Muguruza in the round of 16. In 2016 Angelique Kerber had already parried a match point against Misaki Doi in round one. And then celebrated her first victory in a Grand Slam tournament.
