Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna lost in the 2023 Australian Open final

It would have been almost too good to be true, but: The run of the Indian doubles legends Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna was stopped in the final of the Australian Open 2023. Because the Brazilian couple Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos prevailed in the last match of the competition with 7: 6 (2) and 6: 2. For Mirza it should have been the last appearance at a Grand Slam tournament.

On the WTA tour, 36-year-old Mirza, who has won 36 doubles titles in her career - including those at the Australian Open together with Martina Hingis in 2016 - wants to show herself twice more: in Abu Dhabi with Bethanie Mattek-Sands and in Dubai with Madison Keys.

Luisa Stefani's performance is also remarkable: After she injured her knee badly at the US Open 2021 and was only able to return after a year's break, she won the titles in Chennai, Guadalajara, Montevideo and Adelaide 2. Incidentally, each with different titles Partners.
