The 2022 season is currently in its final phase, but the coming season is already casting its shadow. Traditionally, this will be opened in Australia, the first big highlight will be the Australian Open again in 2023. Whether record winner Novak Djokovic will be allowed to take part in these is currently still in the stars.

Because Djokovic was expelled from the country at the beginning of the year after a legal dispute and given a three-year entry ban for Australia. According to the Australian border protection authority, this can be lifted under certain circumstances, but father Srdjan expressed concerns about this in an interview with the Serbian broadcaster "TV K1": "The situation is the same again."

Questionable statements

According to Srdjan Djokovic, the Australian government tried to "destroy" his son around eleven months ago. "While he was on a plane between Dubai and Melbourne, they changed the law," said the 61-year-old, who had already attracted attention in the days of the legal dispute with questionable statements.

For example, Srdjan Djokovic compared his son to Jesus Christ at a press conference in January this year: "Jesus was crucified, everything was done to him, and he endured it and still lives among us. Now they are trying to crucify Novak in the same way and do everything to him."

Hope looks different

"When they kept my child in prison, which is the shame of all shames," Srdjan Djokovic said he didn't choose his words well. Apparently he doesn't have much hope for his son's participation in the Australian Open. He does not know whether the situation will change, said the 61-year-old.

Novak Djokovic, on the other hand, had recently been a little more optimistic. "As far as Australia is concerned, there are some positive signals - albeit unofficially," said the 21-time Grand Slam champion a few weeks ago .
