Novak Djokovic wants to return to the Australian Open in 2023

Novak Djokovic apparently plans to return to the Australian Open next year. Tournament Director Craig Tiley said yes in an interview. "Of course he still has to play this year, but that will be his intention," Tiley told ABC TV: "After all, he's number one in the world and he really loves the Australian Open."

Only welcome with vaccination

Djokovic is absent from the Melbourne tournament after a defeat in a federal court. The judges had rejected the objection of the world number one against the cancellation of his visa. The 20-time Grand Slam winner was unvaccinated and entered the country with a medical exemption.

Daniel Andrews, Prime Minister of the State of Victoria, now emphasized that Djokovic would only be welcome if he was vaccinated. "It could all have been avoided if he had been vaccinated," said the politician. A professional like Djokovic is no bigger than the tournament.
