Mixed feelings for German professionals in qualifying for the Australian Open: While some players had to pack their bags, Peter Gojowczyk and Antonia Lottner, among others, made it into the third qualification round.
"Gojo" defeated Blaz Kavcic 4: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 4 and now faces the Frenchman Constant Lestienne. Antonia Lottner is also allowed to continue flirting with the main competition - the 23-year-old prevailed against the Japanese Chihiro Muramatsu with 6: 3, 5: 7 and 6: 2. She is now dealing with local hero Destanee Aiava.
Maggots in round two
Yannick Hanfmann and Matthias Bachinger, on the other hand, have left. Hanfmann lost to Prajnesh Gunneswaran 6: 1, 2: 6 and 1: 6, Bachinger had to pack their bags after a 4: 6 and 3: 6 loss to Aleksandar Vukic.
On the third day of qualification, a few first round games had to be played due to the rain the day before. From a German perspective, these were anything but gratifying - only Yannick Maden was able to win .
