Hanfmann had spent the first week of the tournament in 2022 as a member of the German team for the ATP Cup in Sydney, but the former college player was not used. In the second round match of the qualification for the Australian Open Hanfmann showed strong nerves and won against the Dutchman Tim van Rijthoven 7: 6 (8) and 7: 6 (3). For a permanent place in the main field, Yannick Hanfmann now has to defeat Alessandro Gianessi from Italy.
Old hand Tobias Kamke won against Bulgarian Dimitar Kuzmanov 7: 5 and 6: 4. And in round three he plays against compatriot Maximilian Marterer, who was able to assert himself against the Indian Pranesh Gunneswaran with 6: 2 and 7: 6 (8).
It is therefore certain that at least one other German will be in the 128 grid. In addition to Alexander Zverev, Jan-Lennard Struff, Dominik Koepfer, Daniel Altmaier, Peter Gojowczyk, Oscar Otte and Philipp Kohlschreiber will also be there.
