Aryna Sabalenka is still two wins away from her first major triumph

Aryna Sabalenka remains undefeated in the 2023 season. The Belarusian, who rushed to the title at the first of the two WTA Tour 500 tournaments in Adelaide, is now in the semifinals of the Australian Open 2023 after beating Donna Vekic 6: 3 and 6: 2. The smooth result is deceptive especially in the first sentence: it lasted a whole hour.

And that, although Vekic had massive problems with her serve: In the first act, the resurgent Croatian made nine double mistakes, at the end of the match it was 13. But Sabalenka also traditionally has problems with the service. And in the end she also had to record nine double mistakes in her balance sheet. Which gave Vekic a total of 14 break chances - of which she was only able to convert two. But no matter: After the performances shown so far, Aryna Sabalenka must be the favorite for the title at the first Grand Slam tournament in 2023.

Because in the semifinals it is against an outsider: Magda Linette, who was able to defeat Caroline Garcia, also prevailed against Karolina Pliskova with 6:3 and 7:5.

In the upper half, there is a meeting between Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and Victoria Azarenka in the semi-finals. Sabalenka's Belarusian compatriot won her second title in Melbourne ten years ago.
