Open one more time at the Australian Open and then retire. Samantha Stosur has fulfilled this wish, even if the Australian would certainly not have objected to another appearance at the first major of 2023. However, Stosur lost alongside Matthew Ebden against Demi Schuurs and Nikola Mektic 6:4, 3:6 and 6:10. And then took plenty of time to say goodbye to the fans.

Sam Stosur has won nine singles titles during her career, the biggest of which was at the US Open in 2011. There the now 38-year-old went into the final against Serena Williams as a clear outsider. And prevailed there sensationally with 6:2 and 6:3. 2011 was also the year that Stosur finished fourth on the WTA charts. Your highest single placement.

In 2005 at the US Open and 2006 in Roland Garros, Stosur also struck in doubles and won the title alongside Lisa Raymond. As did late in her career with Shang Zhuai, with whom Stosur triumphed at the 2019 Australian Open and again at the 2021 US Open. There are also three mixed championships in the majors. In 2006 she also reached the top of the doubles world rankings. No surprise with a total of 28 titles in pairs.

Stosur played her last singles match in Strasbourg in 2021. With the defeat in mixed in Melbourne, this grandiose career has now come to an end.
