Samantha Stosur will retire after the Australian Open. The 38-year-old announced this before the start of the tournament. "I'm so excited to be playing at Melbourne Park again but this will be my last tournament," the former world number four wrote on Instagram.
"I'm so happy and grateful to have the opportunity to play my favorite tournament - my home tournament - in front of my Australian fans, friends and family," continued Stosur. "A small part of me would like to keep playing forever. I will miss all the incredible experiences and emotions."
Stosur had already ended her singles career at last year's Australian Open, so she is now turning her back on mixed and women's doubles. The 38-year-old will make her first appearance in Melbourne on Tuesday alongside Alize Cornet, and in the mixed competition she will compete with Matthew Ebden.
Overall, Stosur won nine singles titles in her career, including that at the US Open in 2011. She also won four Grand Slam titles in doubles and three in mixed.
