Serena Williams did not particularly easily manage her 6-2, 6-3 win against Tamara Zidansek. The second set, in particular, proved to be a task that the 23-time major winner initially seemed to despair of: Williams had one break after another, but Zidansek persistently denied her opponent's options. And then suddenly in the sixth game stood before the break lead. Williams, in eighth place in Melbourne, kept his nerve at these moments. And after 78 minutes of play with the second break in round two, she made it into round three.
With Qiang Wang, however, the first really hard touchstone is waiting. The Chinese is 29th in the WTA world rankings, Zhang had no problems with Catherine McNally in the second round.
In the post-match interview, Williams explained that in the middle of the second sentence, she knew she was making too many simple mistakes. She got a better grip on that at the end. Otherwise it could have been a very difficult match.
