Stefanos Tsitsipas' work is not yet running smoothly at the Australian Open 2022. In any case, Sebastian Baez presented the previous year's semi-finalists with the necessary problems. The young Argentinian delivered a courageous performance and almost caught up a 0:5 deficit in the third set. And in the end had to admit defeat to the co-favorite from Greece. Tsitsipas won 7: 6 (1), 6: 7 (5), 6: 3 and 6: 4. In round three, Tsitsipas meets either Benoit Paire or Grigor Dimitrov.
A second Argentinian also had to give up on Thursday: Diego Schwartzman. While Baez went into the game against Tsitsipas as a clear outsider, Schwartzman's defeat by Australian Christopher O'Connell came as a surprise.
Andrey Rublev, who only lost six games against Ricardas Berankis, and Roberto Bautista Agut, who won 6:1, 6:0 and 6:3 against Philipp Kohlschreiber, are still safe. Rublev meets Marin Cilic in round three, Bautista Agut plays Taylor Fritz.
