Solid start for Stefanos Tsitsipas at this year's Australian Open: The fourth in the world rankings clearly prevailed in the first round against Mikael Ymer 6: 2, 6: 4 and 6: 3. There was no sign of elbow problems in Melbourne, which had still hampered the Greeks at the ATP Cup. Tsitsipas meets Sebastian Baez in round two.
Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios had just as easy a game as Tsitsipas in the John Cain Arena. The Australian put on a great show against British qualifier Liam Broady and won easily 6:4, 6:4 and 6:3. On Thursday, Kyrgios meets Daniil Medvedev in a real second round smash, who also did not lose a set in his first round game .
With Alex de Minaur, the Australian number one also bought her second round ticket. The 22-year-old defeated Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 and 6-3. Alexei Popyrin, on the other hand, was narrowly defeated in five sets by Adelaide finalist Arthur Rinderknech.
