Fucsovics won 7: 5, 6: 1, 4: 6, 2: 6 and 6: 7 (9) against "Stan the Man", the winner from 2014 in Melbourne.
Wawrinka almost made a sensational comeback. He was already 0: 2 sets behind, even at 4: 5 in the fifth set he was behind with a break and turned the game - almost. But a 6: 1, 8: 4 and 9: 6 lead in the match break was not enough for Wawrinka, who left all three match points and put a backhand just off the line on his own serve at 9: 8. In the end, Fucsovics made five points in a row to victory.
"It's my favorite Grand Slam tournament. I enjoy the sun and the good weather. In my country we have snow and a lockdown," said Fucsovics afterwards.
The world number 55. now faces Milos Raonic, who beat Corentin Moutet in four sets.
