Görges already led 4-2 in the first set and was the better player for long stretches, but could not use her only set ball in the tie-break. After 56 minutes, Bencic turned her first chance to win the set.
In the second round, Görges fought back three times from a broken back and played himself into a tie break. There she quickly fell 1: 5 behind, made a simple mistake with an overhead ball and finally had to give up after 1:52 hours.
Bencic now faces Danielle Collins in the quarterfinals from Adelaide. This means that Germans are no longer represented in the tournament, which is worth almost 700,000 euros.
