Bianca Andreescu looks back on a difficult time: In 2020, the Canadian could not play a single match due to knee problems and since her return to the Australian Open things have been anything but smooth for the world number seven. The 20-year-old had to cope with injury-related tasks, a positive corona test and, most recently, a sporting setback with the first round defeat at the French Open this year.

After this, Andreescu and her trainer Sylvain Bruneau decided to go their separate ways. After starting their collaboration in 2018, the two had already won the US Open title in the following season, at the end of 2019 the Canadian was even fourth in the world rankings.

Not least because of these successes, Andreescu's separation was anything but easy. "With a heavy heart, I would like to inform my fans that my long-time coach, mentor and friend Sylvain and I have mutually decided to end our incredible coaching relationship," wrote the 20-year-old on Twitter.

The friendship between the two will continue after the "amazing four years," said Andreescu: "Sylvain was more than a coach. He's part of the family." It is not yet known how the Canadian is setting up her coaching team.
