Carlos Alcaraz staged his irresistible forehand from the baseline for the last time, firing a final inside-out winner over the net to capture what was probably the biggest surprise of the men's tournament at the US Open. We're talking about that five-set fight with the number three in the world, Stefanos Tsitsipas, in which the 18-year-old celebrated by far his greatest career success - and was able to play his way into the last eight of a major event as a teenager .

More than inglorious, this run was to end days later in the quarter-finals, after four games in the second round the Spaniard had to give up due to an injury, with which the next youngster, Felix Auger-Aliassime, was able to reach the first Grand Slam semi-final of his career.

Alcaraz is absent from the tour for a few weeks

The injury that forced the 18-year-old to give up in the biggest match of his career to date now ensures that the super talent is absent from the ATP tour for a longer period of time. Alcaraz announced this in a statement on the social networks: "A fibrillary tear in the vastus medialis and in the lateral quadriceps as well as a stretch in the adductor area were found, so that I have to take it easy for a few weeks," an examination by his doctor would have shown.

It is unclear at the moment how long the 18-year-old will not play any official matches. Due to his strong results on clay and recently at the US Open, the Spaniard was able to make a strong leap forward in the world rankings, and Alcaraz is now ranked 35th. Things look even better in the race to the ATP finals, here the 18-year-old is in 21st place. The world number 35 is hard to take. however, the participation in the Future ATP Finals, behind Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jannik Sinner, the Spaniard is in third place there.
