This news shocked the tennis world: Caroline Wozniacki will end her active tennis career after the Australian Open. However, the 29-year-old will not play her last match in Melbourne, but in her native Denmark.
As the Danish media report, the former world number one will graduate in May of next year, a farewell match against her good friend Serena Williams. The venue will be the Royal Arena in Copenhagen. This arena can accommodate up to 12,500 people.
A win against Williams
Woznaicki and Williams played eleven times against each other on the WTA Tour. The US-American was always the winner except for one exception - the only victory Wozniackis dates back to 2012, when the Danish Williams beat Miami in two sets.
In Copenhagen, Wozniacki will hope for a worthy farewell to the tennis board in front of her home crowd. As the greatest success of the 29-year-old tennis fans will probably remember the triumph at the Australian Open in 2018 - a repeat two years later would probably border on a sporting miracle.
