The ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal will definitely have to do without Novak Djokovic, but the Serb has not yet given up hope for the US Open, which begins on August 29th. Despite the lack of vaccination against the corona virus, which is currently a prerequisite for entering the USA, the 35-year-old is currently preparing for the last Grand Slam tournament of the year as usual, according to his own statements .

The signs for Djokovic are anything but good, as a timely rethinking of entry regulations seems extremely unlikely. A petition with around 50,000 signatures, which calls for the 21-time Grand Slam winner to appear at the US Open, will probably not change that.

With John Isner, a colleague now also spoke out in favor of the participation of the long-standing world number one. It was "complete madness" that Djokovic couldn't play from the current perspective, the American wrote on Twitter. Tennys Sandgren also expressed his support for the Belgrade man.

Djokovic's coach Goran Ivanisevic had recently shown little optimism . "Novak will do everything possible, maybe with a special visa, but there are only two weeks left. Personally, I have no hope," said the Croatian in Umag.
