Gavrilova announced this on her Facebook page a few days ago. The 25-year-old wrote that she had to get her body in shape again. She has been suffering from inflammation of the Achilles tendon since 2016, and since the beginning of this year she has also developed plantar fasciitis on the other foot. "Even though I played through with pain this year ... everything got a little too much. My motivation was gone."

Gavrilova has only won seven matches throughout the season and has slipped to 145th place. "I'm not going to put any pressure on deadlines. To be honest, I don't know when I'm going to play the next tournament," continued Gavrilova.

Gavrilova has won a WTA title so far (2017 in New Haven) and has appeared in three more finals.
