The fact that friends of the well-groomed double game in the duel between Kevin Krawietz / Tim Pütz and Joe Salisbury / Neal Skupski would get a treat, given the proven expertise of all four protagonists, seemed clear even before the start of the all-important double in the Davis Cup quarter-finals between Germany and Great Britain to be.

But the level that the two pairings brought to the pitch in the Innsbruck Olympic Hall surprised in view of the great pressure. Ultimately, after defending four set balls, it was Krawietz and Pütz who won a first round that was as high-quality as it was exciting with 7: 6 (10).

It went no less well in the second set: Again neither of the two teams made a break, again a tie-break had to bring the decision. And again the Germans had the better end for themselves - this time despite the 0: 5 deficit in the tie-break! After 2:02 hours of play, Krawietz / Pütz used their first match ball to win 7: 6 (10) and 7: 6 (5).

This means that Germany is in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup finals in 2021. On Saturday, Michael Kohlmann's team will face the winner of the match between Russia and Sweden.

Peter Gojowczyk was initially defeated by Dan Evans against Great Britain, Jan-Lennard Struff then equalized against Cameron Norrie.
