Bianca Andreescu is again struggling with physical problems: The Canadian, who has already been injured several times in her young career, was plagued by back pain in the first round of the WTA 250 tournament in San Jose, which resulted in the 4: 6 and 2: 6 defeat by Shelby Rogers as a logical consequence.

She was hoping for a miracle, Andreescu explained after the match. After an examination on Tuesday, the 22-year-old now gave the all-clear: Despite her back problems, the world number 54 wants. start at their home tournament in Toronto next week. She will now recover and then prepare for her first match on Tuesday, Andreescu wrote on Instagram.

In 2019, Andreescu celebrated her greatest success to date with her triumph in Toronto in addition to winning the tournament in Indian Wells: On the way to the title, the Canadian beat the three top ten players Kiki Bertens, Karolina Pliskova and Serena Williams, among others.

A few weeks later, Andreescu also won against Williams at the US Open and thus won her first and only Grand Slam trophy so far. A repetition of this feat in the current calendar year seems extremely unrealistic, also because of her back problems.
