"Now I am relaxing for ten days, holidays abroad were out of the question due to the pandemic, so I spend my days off at home in Austria," said the 27-year-old US Open winner. "No training, no appointments and I only turn on my cell phone for a moment - I want to fully recharge my battery."

The start of the new season has not yet been set. The ATP is in regular contact with the Australian Open, a decision is expected by the end of this week. Most likely, a postponement of a few weeks applies .

Thiem wants to go to the Olympics

Thiem reaffirmed, however, that he wanted to compete at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. "I'm really looking forward to playing for a medal. The mood as an athlete at the Olympics must be unique, I will consciously soak up this atmosphere," Thiem wrote. The stories told by his coach Nicolas Massu, who won gold in both singles and doubles in 2004, gave him additional motivation.

At the beginning of the week it was announced that Thiem wants to serve at the Laver Cup in Boston in 2021. "On the one hand it is very serious, everyone wants to win this trophy - on the other hand we have a lot of fun, the best tennis players present themselves as friends and push each other," wrote Thiem.
