Dominic Thiem reacts to easing the government

Dominic Thiem , like many other professional athletes in Austria, can start training again next Monday. Sports Minister Werner Kogler announced on Wednesday that the measures would be relaxed and that the sports facilities would be open to professionals . Thiem welcomes the decision, but will not yet complete his usual training workload.

"This is incredible news. I can't wait to get back on the pitch. Until then I will keep fit as before," Thiem told Sky Sport on Wednesday evening.

Thiem does not want to see that some competitors can already train regularly . "It will be a long time before the tour starts again. Let's say it takes another three or four months. No one can endure training that long. We all played so much tennis in our careers that a month Preparation will be enough to get in shape. "

The ATP tour, like the WTA tour, is stopped until at least July 13th. The entire lawn season falls flat. However, Thiem speculates with a shift in the clay court season in late summer. "I'm happy if the tour starts again at all. I don't care what surface it will be on. The swing in America is very unrealistic. Maybe the clay court season will be postponed there," said the 26-year-old, but noted that the travel restrictions are the largest construction site for a resumption of tour operations.

Dominic Thiem: Training with Dennis Novak from Monday

"I can only plan properly when the tour starts again. I miss the tennis, I'm happy when I can work out again. I only start a full training session when there is a realistic schedule. But it will be in any case started on sand, "said Thiem.

On Monday Thiem will therefore complete a first unit with Dennis Novak, as the latter confirmed on Wednesday. "I am pleased that I will be able to train again on Monday," said Novak during tennisnetnews' Instagram live interview with Christopher Kas. "I will definitely train with the Domi. Jurij and Ofi will also be there."

Thiem, meanwhile, enjoys spending time at home. "Aside from all of the difficulties, it's a cool time. It's the first time in 15 years that it hasn't hit one another and exposed to stress," said Thiem. "I live a bit into the day, spend a lot of time with the family and get to know new sides of life."

Thiem is committed to the plan to contest the postponed Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. "If the calendar gives it, there is a possibility that I will play the Olympics in Tokyo. Maybe a small window has opened up now."
