Dominic Thiem has often been named in the past few months as the leader of the first chasing group of the Big Three, as the leader of the new generation of tennis stars, as the leader of the group around Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev. Now a look at the world rankings allows us to draw this conclusion, but from a purely age point of view one should really not count the Austrian after his 27th birthday today in this young guard.

Thiem's successes in recent months also speak for this, the Austrian has the greatest successes in the above-mentioned group of players, especially at major level. Dominic Thiem not only has a few more years under his belt, but accordingly the man from Lichtenwörth is already richer in one or the other experience.

Thiem always among the favorites

Dominic Thiem is now a player who, like coach Nicolas Massu, stated that every tournament he participates in must also be counted among the favorites, a player who always has the chance to win this tournament. This is also the case at the current US Open, where Thiem is not only entering the race as number two in the tournament, the Austrian is one of the top favorites among many experts.

And just today, on his 27th birthday, the Austrian can take another step towards great triumph, Thiem will hit Sumit Nagal around 8:00 p.m. European time. The Lower Austrian is going into the race as a big favorite and should move into the third round of the second Grand Slam of the year as planned.

A good performance at the major in the USA would also mean that Thiem can make up a lot of ground in the world rankings. The Austrian only has the points for the first round in New York City on the account, so he can top it up considerably - and thus move closer to last year's winner Rafael Nadal, who keeps his points, but the Spaniard will not win any these days .

Thiem: A professional through and through

Dominic Thiem is also extremely popular away from the big sporting stages, the friendly manner of the Lower Austrian is well received, although the 27-year-old gambled away a few sympathy values with a few statements during the COVID-19 crisis - even if many These statements simply "came across as too harsh", such as a comment on the player fund for poorly ranked players.

The Austrian is now considered a full professional, which is evident on the field, especially in training, of course, but also in his external appearance. In interviews, the three-time Grand Slam finalist always presents in a friendly manner, the new homepage, including the new logo designed by the company itself, impressively shows this professional self-image. At the age of 27, Dominic Thiem is a professional through and through - it hardly matters that the puppy protection is now finally over.
