"With mixed feelings, I have to tell you some special news today: What started with an Achilles tendon injury has become one of the hardest moments of my life - what to do with my tennis career." In the end, I decided that as a player I no longer to return to the court. "

With these words, Dominika Cibulkova announced on Instagram her retirement from active tennis. The 30-year-old Slovak can proudly look back on her career, reaching the final at the 2014 Australian Open and winning the WTA Finals in 2016. In the world rankings Cibulkova climbed to fourth place.

Overall, the Slovak won eight titles in her career, she also reached 13 other finals. Their last match was played by Cibulkova at the French Open against Aryna Sabalenka. In Paris, the 30-year-old had beaten 5: 7 and 1: 6.

However, Cibulkova will not be too boring in the tennis board: On Tuesday, the long-standing top ten player in the Slovak capital Bratislava presented her book "Tennis is my Life", in which she looks back on her career. "I'm honored to share this particular book with my fans and look forward to taking the next step in my life," said Cibulkova.
