"Wimbledon is my favorite tournament." A statement that Donna Vekic gave with great sadness in an interview with the Croatian newspaper Jutranji List , she did so to speak about the painful cancellation of the classic lawn. "I have not yet accepted that Wimbledon will not take place this year, but the situation is the same everywhere, not just in the world of tennis," said the Croatian. She will miss the grass court swing, as it is a surface on which she likes to play.

At Wimbledon, Vekic would have had a lot to do this year , having already failed in the first round last year. A mission that has now been postponed by one year for the 23-year-old. "It will be a strange feeling when I return to Wimbledon and other tournaments in 2021 when the crisis is over," Ubitennis.com quotes the Croatian, who is not entirely convinced that the tour will resume this calendar year.

"Not spending as much time at home since I was ten"

"I am aware that it may not be possible to return to the tennis court. The tour will only be restarted when there are no more travel restrictions," explains Vekic, who at the same time hopes that the 2020 may continue Professional tennis. Nevertheless, the Croatian can gain a few positive aspects from the situation. Like so many tennis players, she now has as much free time as she has had since childhood: "I have not spent as much time at home since I was ten", says number 24 of the WTA world ranking.

Time that Vekic uses for things for which there is no time during everyday touring. The Croatian spends a lot of time with her family, watches TV, cooks and learns French. And of course she doesn't forget to keep fit. "I think I will then be able to run a half marathon," says Vekic about her intensive running training these days. But all this is only a small consolation for the interruption of the tour: "I miss the tournaments and the adrenaline. The stop is a shock for me and my team," said the 23-year-old.
