"I had a tough two weeks when I had Corona. So I couldn't train much before we came here," Soares said at the press conference. At the Masters tournament scheduled just before the US Open, Pavic / Soares lost in the first round.

The doubles traveled to Rome the day after their triumph in New York to prepare for the clay court tournament in Italy. Then the French Open are on the program, where spectators are admitted. "I assume they will follow all protocols to have a safe tournament," said Soares. "I assume that the fans will take to their seats in a moment and will be kept away from us players."

For their sovereign victory in 90 minutes at the Grand Slam tournament in New York, Pavic and Soares will jointly receive prize money of 400,000 US dollars. Koolhof and Mektic get $ 240,000.

Both Soares and the eleven-year-old Pavic had previously won Grand Slam titles with other partners: Soares triumphed in 2016 with Jamie Murray (Great Britain) at the Australian Open and the US Open, Pavic won the Australian Open in 2018 with the Austrian Oliver Marach the title.

After winning the Masters in Shanghai last year, it is their second joint title. Soares is currently number 18 in the double ranking. In the race he is second with Pavic.
