Doubles in 2020: Julia Görges grabs Ashleigh Barty
Julia Görges wants to attack again in 2020. In doubles she has chosen an excellent partner.

2019 was a year of upheaval for Julia Görges. In the spring she separated from successful trainer Michael Geserer, in the autumn, finally, by his successor Sebastian Sachs and physiotherapist and life partner Florian Zitzelsberger. Ex-Fed Cup boss Jens Gerlach is now set new impetus, the "controlled offensive" will be the keyword here.
And Görges looks optimistically into the coming year: "With each door, which closes, opens a new," she told the Süddeutsche Zeitung . Görges has opened a pretty good door in their advent calendar, Ashleigh Barty had obviously hidden behind it, anyway Görges wants to stir up the doubles tour with the world ranking first in the coming year. In both Grand Slams and the big WTA tournaments, the two want to do something common, it goes on. If the chemistry fits, we could expect great things here.

Barty was already number 5 in the double ranking and has reached the final of all majors, even won the US Open 2018 alongside CoCo Vandeweghe. Görges does not have to hide behind it: 12th place was her double highlight, with semi-finals at the Australian Open 2015 (with Anna-Lena Grönefeld) and 2016 (with Karolina Pliskova). 2016 is also the Wimbledon semi-final (also with Pliskova) in the list of success.
Goerges still has goals when she is alone on the court: "It would be nice to come back in the top ten." The optimism for this is there: "The paths I have gone out have almost always brought me the success I wanted."
She wants to continue playing for two or three years, "then I'm 33, 34, and there's a life after that." Specifically: "I hope that I can eventually start a family."
