Due to the corona pandemic, the Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2020 will not take place as planned from October 11th to 18th. Sandra Reichel, director of Austria's largest women's tennis tournament, announced this on Friday. "The fixed date for an alternative date is imminent," Reichel was quoted as saying in a broadcast. Possible dates would be between the beginning of November and the second week of December.

Last year in Linz, Cori Gauff won her first and so far only title on the tour in the final against Jelena Ostapenko. The young American had slipped into the main draw as a lucky loser.

In addition to Linz, the Korea Open in Seoul are also affected by Covid-19-related updates in the provisional WTA tournament calendar for the rest of 2020. The women's tennis tour was also stopped by Corona in March and only resumed last month. A hard court event in Ostrava (Czech Republic) in October is so far the only fixed tournament on the calendar of the women's tour after the French Open.

Due to the recent rapid increase in the number of infections in Moscow, the WTA tour on Thursday also announced the complete cancellation of the Kremlin Cup, which was scheduled for the end of October. The ATP men's tournament cannot take place there either. (APA, September 18, 2020)
