Elina Svitolina returns to the tour in April

Almost exactly a year ago, Elina Svitolina played her last match on the tour at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. After that, the Ukrainian took a creative break: first because of the Russian war of aggression against her home country, then because of her pregnancy. Now the 28-year-old is ready for her comeback.

Svitolina had already accepted a wildcard for the WTA 500 event in Charleston (April 3rd to 9th) in mid-March. On Wednesday it was announced that the bronze medalist of the 2020 Olympic Games will also start at the ITF W100 tournament in Oeiras (April 17th to 23rd) - also thanks to a wildcard.

Svitolina will receive support for her comeback from her new coach Raemon Sluiter, who has already led Kiki Bertens to the top of the world. This is exactly where the former world number three wants to return. For the time being, as the Ukrainian explained in a recent interview, she has no expectations.

Svitolina's long-term goals are the French Open and Wimbledon. For a place in the main draw, however, the 28-year-old will have to rely on wildcards. Because Svitolina is currently only listed at position 1081 in the world rankings.
