It was a respectable game on Wednesday in Miami, the early duel between two former US Open winners looking for old form - in which Bianca Andreescu retained the upper hand. /

Emma Raducanu, currently ranked 72nd after her surprise victory in New York in 2021 and looking for everyday WTA tour life, seemed physically ailing again, as was often the case last year.

She had to end the 2022 season early due to wrist problems, and things don't seem to have healed completely. "I've been struggling with that for a while," she explained in the subsequent press conference. "I have to have this clarified now and find out what the next steps are."

The matter is somewhat under control, she is able to play competitive tennis at short notice. "But the current solutions are not designed to last."

Raducanu does without the Billie Jean King Cup - start at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix

At the beginning of the year, the 20-year-old had already injured her ankle, but apparently got over it. However, previous back and leg problems have made her cautious. Raducanu will not participate in the Billie Jean King Cup against France in mid-April. It's difficult for her, she admitted, "but the scenario isn't the best for my body," she continued, explaining that she had been advised not to change the pads at short notice.

"I would love to play the Billie Jean King Cup," she said. "But I have to look at myself and what's best for me on the pitch."

Especially since Raducanu will compete in the week of April 17 - directly after the BJKC - at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. There she is equipped with a top 20 wildcard as a Porsche brand ambassador. Last year Raducanu made a strong impression in Stuttgart, beating Storm Hunter and Tamara Korpatsch before losing to eventual winner Iga Swiatek after a hard fight.
