Emma Raducanu has not yet contested a clay court tournament. And yet she was extremely confident before her appearance in the Billie Jean King Cup. What makes you so sure?

It seemed logical that Emma Raducanu had to be given a little time after her great success at the US Open 2021. She was not able to immediately confirm her performances after this highlight. The year ended with moderate results. And even in 2022 things are not really running smoothly yet. Of course, one mustn't forget that she only joined the tour less than a year ago. And that she had to accept one or two physical setbacks.
In the Billie Jean King Cup, the 19-year-old is going to start for Great Britain these days. A match to be played in the Czech Republic - on clay. So on a surface on which Raducanu doesn't really have much confidence due to a lack of experience - which she has only gained in the youth field so far. But that's exactly what she does.
"One of the strongest rubbers in the future"
Before the start of the game between Great Britain and the Czech Republic, the number twelve in the world said: "I think that sand could be one of my strongest surfaces for the future, but of course I'm still at the beginning." Her reasoning was then interesting: "I I feel like I have a lot more potential physically. And I enjoy sliding. So when a little more time has passed on this surface, I will certainly be able to time it even better. I feel like I can play aggressively on clay."
A start has been made in Prague: Raducanu won her first singles match 7:5 and 7:5 against Tereza Martincova . On Saturday she meets Marketa Vondrousova . The Czech Republic and Great Britain are currently 1: 1 (as of Friday evening).
