Denis Shapovalov is in the semifinals at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna: The Canadian clearly beat Dan Evans 6: 3 and 6: 3 in a one-sided quarterfinal game and thus qualified as the fourth and last player for the semifinals of the ATP 500 event in the Austrian federal capital.

Shapovalov, who had not yet managed to win a match before the start of this year's edition in Vienna, put in a strong performance against Evans and never left the still well-filled Wiener Stadthalle in doubt about the outcome of the encounter. After a little less than 100 minutes of play, he converted his second match point to a 6:3 and 6:3 victory.

Shapovalov will face Borna Coric in the semifinals on Saturday. The Croatian had previously held his own in a great game against Hubert Hurkacz . The first semifinal will be contested by Daniil Medvedev and Grigor Dimitrov .
