Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic refine the schedule for Tuesday at the Erste Bank Open

By Michael Rothschädl from the Wiener Stadthalle

Dominic Thiem has been regularly in the Wiener Stadthalle since Saturday and is ready for his kick-off, as the Austrian explained in the opening press conference. The "prelude light" there was already yesterday Monday for the home favorite, but when he played alongside Dennis Novak in the doubles competition, the world number three had to make do with the orphaned NextGen court - and against the experienced doubles Murray / Skupski suffer a narrow defeat.

In his first appearance in the individual competition, Dominic Thiem faces a different opponent than expected in the third match on Tuesday after 2 p.m. ( in our live ticker ). Instead of Kei Nishikori, who had to announce his early season end on Monday evening due to an injury to his right shoulder , the Austrian will now meet the lucky loser Vitaliy Sachko, who had moved into the field for the Japanese.

Already in the first game of the day there is a real big game on Center Court. Grigor Dimitrov and Karen Khachanov will open the game day at 2 p.m. in the Wiener Stadthalle. Immediately afterwards, the top favorite to win the tournament will join the game, Novak Djokovic will meet his compatriot Filip Krajinovic in his opening match at the Erste Bank Open.

Evans, Hurkacz and Lajovic on the NextGen Court

After Dominic Thiem's first appearance at the Center Court, Cristian Garin and Stan Wawrinka will also find out who will face the Austrian in round two. Provided, of course, that the US Open winner doesn’t miss Vitaliy Stachko.

Hubert Hurkacz and Attila Balasz will meet after a double match on the NextGen Court, which will be played behind closed doors this year due to COVID-19. Immediately afterwards the qualifier Aljaz Bedene will meet the Briton Dan Evans, before Dusan Lajovic will intervene in the tournament against the lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego.

You can watch all Erste Bank Open games live on TV and live stream on the tournament host broadcaster ServusTV. The ORF has also secured the right for selected matches.
