The opponent Jule Niemeier from Dortmund could only look in disbelief, she had just witnessed an event that does not occur very often in women's tennis. Sure, Kvitova is considered a strong server on the WTA Tour, but the German certainly didn't expect something like that.
In men's tennis, higher service speeds are the order of the day, if only because of the physical advantages, and that's why there are quite a few men who have managed to hit the perfect service game.
Roger Federer in an elite circle, of course
In Brisbane in 2015, the Swiss player even got seven aces in a row, almost two games without his unfortunate opponent James Duckworth getting the ball. It's not really surprising that Federer, who excels less with the smashing serves than with his precision, is among this list of serving giants who have made it. He's long been considered one of the best servers of all time, even if his average aces per game isn't nearly as high as that of the competition.
The serve giants live up to their name
Sam Querrey , once even with ten aces in a row, Ivo Karlovic , John Isner , Milos Raonic , these names are known for high speed service and many aces. Daniil Medvedev (in Stuttgart 2019), Juan Martin del Potro , Nick Kyrgios and the great Pete Sampras also managed one or more times to take away the opponent's interest in tennis for a brief moment.
And Petra Kvitova will probably remember this day in St. Petersburg for some time to come.
