Simona Halep sustained an injury to her calf

Everything seemed to be going so well for Simona Halep : The world number three led in their second round encounter at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome against Angelique Kerber with 6: 1 and 3: 3 and had the action largely under control. But then the Romanian injured her left calf, ended the game prematurely and limped off with the help of her opponent.

A few days later, the 29-year-old now also knows her diagnosis: "After an MRI here in Rome, I can confirm that I have a small crack high up in my left calf", Halep wrote on Twitter. After her flight home, she will begin the recovery process in the pool and gym so she can get back on the tour as soon as possible.

How long Halep will be out, however, left it open. Due to the severity of the injury, however, it is to be feared that the Romanian could miss the French Open in Paris on May 30th. In 2018, the world number three in Roland Garros won their first Grand Slam title.

But Halep does not want to write off the second major event of the year entirely. "I'm staying positive and will do everything I can to accelerate my return. Thank you again and see you soon," the 29-year-old told her fans.
