Court 12 was, at least acoustically, firmly in German hands this Thursday afternoon. And Jan-Lennard Struff was quite infected by the mood. The rather introverted Warsteiner has not only shown great performances on the pitch over the past few weeks, but also more emotions. Against Radu Albot, who is also going very well in 2019, Struff had every reason to do so: The German Davis Cup player moved after a 7: 6 (2), 7: 6 (3), 6: 7 (4) and 6 : 2 after a playing time of 3:14 hours for the first time in the third round of the second Grand Slam tournament of the year.

Alexander Zverev had made it there earlier in the day, but with far less drama than struff. Only in the third set against Mikael Ymer did Zverev pull the reins a bit, the success of the fifth place in the world rankings was never up for debate.

Struff, on the other hand, was not averse to a bit of drama and could have left the court after three rounds. You might as well play a fifth set. But Struff marked his second victory in Roland Garros 2019 with a very concentrated performance at the end. At the start he had given Denis Shapovalov from Canada no chance. Now Borna Coric is probably waiting for struff. The Croatian is 13th in Paris.
