Karolina Pliskova faces a race against time

Karolina Pliskova's appearance in the final of the WTA Premier 5 tournament in Rome lasted only 32 minutes, then the Czech had to give up against Simona Halep. As the world number four announced after the game, thigh problems were the reason for the premature end - during the final, she had also had her back treated.

Pliskova cited the large number of encounters within a relatively short period of time as the reason for the injury: "It's a combination of daily games and exhausting matches. I played a few two-set games, but it was also on clay. I switched from hard court to ash relatively quickly. You have to slide and walk a lot. "

Pliskova with major results that could be expanded

Immediately after the final, Pliskova could not say what the thigh problems mean for the French Open, which starts on September 27th: "I hope to be ready. There is still a week, so enough time." The 28-year-old didn't seem too convinced: "Two weeks full of tennis are waiting. I'm not sure today whether I can do it. I have to wait and see what the doctors say."

Pliskova should therefore be facing a race against time - the Czech knows that too: "I could play on Sunday, but the few days until there should help a lot. I want to be 100 percent fit because I have a grand Slam tournament wants to go far. " So far, Pliskova, who would have been ranked second in Paris after the cancellations of Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka, only reached the final of a major at the US Open 2016.
