The ninth seeded German tennis top doubles lost their opening match to the Finnish-British duo Harri Heliövaara/Lloyd Glasspool 4:6, 2:6. "KraMies" won the doubles competition in Paris in 2019 and 2020, last year Mies had to pass after knee surgery.

"We didn't play well today and our opponents did their stuff solidly," said Krawietz: "Of course it hurts a lot at first." Mies reported that the team was able to increase their triumphs over the course of the tournament: "Then we got into a flow."

Heliövaara/Glasspool, on the other hand, were among the strongest unseeded opponents, said Mies: "We knew we had to be there in the first round. We didn't make it."

With their premiere success in 2019, both drew a lot of attention to the doubles competitions. In the history of professional tennis since 1968, no duo of two German players had previously won the title in a Grand Slam tournament.
