Will Court Suzanne-Lenglen still be played this year?

Nothing precise is not known - and certainly not whether competition tennis can still take place in the usual international framework this year. In any case, the organizers of the French Open are trying to save what may not be possible anymore. After the actually second Grand Slam tournament of the year was postponed a few weeks ago to the period between September 20 and October 4, 2020, and thus to an appointment after the US Open, the French tennis association goes according to information from Le Parisien one step further. The game for the main field should now start on September 27th. That would also mean that a qualification competition would be held. Until now, tennis circles had rather assumed that the qualification could be dropped.

The further postponement naturally also feeds speculation about the entire schedule for the fall of 2020. Under the given circumstances, hosting the US Open seems highly unlikely, the idea of hosting a few clay court tournaments before Roland Garros is a little more realistic. Like Madrid or Rome. After the new appointment in Paris, the indoor tournaments would soon be in Vienna and Basel, followed by Paris-Bercy. There is also a big question mark behind the ATP final in London. However, in the O2 Arena, as in the Wiener Stadthalle or the St.Jakobshalle in Basel, it can be assumed that there is practically no flexibility when it comes to postponement.

The final cancellation of the French Open would be a financial disaster for the French Tennis Association. In contrast to Wimbledon, the organizers have not taken out default insurance.
