The Spaniard defeated the 29-year-old Stuttgart Yannick Maden 6: 1, 6: 2, 6: 4. In the first round, Nadal defeated Yannick Hanfmann in Karlsruhe 6: 2, 6: 1, 6: 3.

Maden, who had reached the second round of a Grand Slam for the first time on the third attempt, fought back against Roland Garros' eleven-time winner. After all, he stood 2:09 hours on the Suzanne Lenglen Court, where he was cheered on occasionally. In the first round, Hanfmann had managed to keep Nadal busy for 1:57 hours.

Maden played very solidly, made few mistakes of his own and even fought breakballs in the third set - he used them to equalize to 3: 3 and shortly afterwards to 4: 4. In addition, the number 114 in the world rankings occasionally managed to annoy the number two with a disrespectful stop ball. But maggot could not get Nadal out of step permanently.

Nadal (31) lost in the four Grand Slam tournaments to a qualifier and a German: In 2015 he was sensationally defeated by Dustin Brown (Winsen / Aller) in the first round at Wimbledon. The Spaniard achieved his 88th victory against maggots in his 90th match in Roland Garros. Maggot remains a consolation prize money of 87,000 euros.
